OpenBackup respects your privacy.
OpenBackup is an Android application designed to monitor the status of backups created by third-party backup software, including SuperDuper! on macOS.
OpenBackup is not a backup application. It does not create, copy, modify, restore, manage or store backups. The app only reads and displays backup status information from a location selected by the user.
2. Information processed by OpenBackup
OpenBackup reads a backup status file, such as
backup_status.json, from a location configured by the
user.
Supported locations may include:
- Google Drive
- Dropbox
- A user-provided HTTP or HTTPS server
The app only processes the information necessary to display backup monitoring details, such as backup status, completion time, source, destination and available storage information.
OpenBackup does not upload, modify or delete files stored in these locations.
3. Personal information
OpenBackup does not collect, store or transmit personal information to the developer.
The app does not collect information such as:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Contacts
- Messages
- Photos or videos
- Precise location
- Payment card or banking information
OpenBackup does not require users to create an OpenBackup account.
4. Data collection and storage
OpenBackup does not operate a cloud service or server that receives or stores users' backup status information.
Backup status information is retrieved directly from the location configured by the user and is displayed on the user's device.
Settings required for the app to function, such as a selected connection type, status-file URL and refresh interval, may be stored locally on the user's Android device.
OpenBackup does not sell personal information or backup information.
5. Third-party services
Depending on the user's configuration, OpenBackup may connect to third-party services such as Google Drive or Dropbox, or to a server operated by the user.
These services are controlled by their respective providers and are subject to their own privacy policies, terms and security practices.
OpenBackup does not control the availability, security or data processing practices of third-party services.
6. OpenBackup Pro and payments
OpenBackup may offer optional paid functionality through Google Play.
Purchases are processed by Google Play. The developer of OpenBackup does not receive or store users' full payment card or banking information.
Google may process purchase and transaction information according to Google's own privacy policy and terms.
7. Advertising, analytics and tracking
OpenBackup does not display third-party advertisements.
OpenBackup does not use third-party analytics, advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking technologies.
8. Backup responsibility
OpenBackup is a monitoring tool only. It is not responsible for creating or maintaining backups.
The developer of OpenBackup is not responsible for:
- The success or failure of backup software
- Missing, incomplete, corrupted or outdated backups
- Data loss
- Storage-device failures
- Cloud-service outages
- Incorrect or unavailable status information
- Failures of third-party software or services
9. Security
OpenBackup is designed to access only the backup status information required to provide its monitoring functionality.
Users remain responsible for securing:
- Their Android device
- Their cloud-storage accounts
- Their own HTTP or HTTPS servers
- Their backup software
- The URLs and files configured in OpenBackup
Users should use HTTPS whenever they connect OpenBackup to their own server over the internet.
10. Children's privacy
OpenBackup is not specifically directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when OpenBackup's functionality, legal requirements or third-party integrations change.
